Cinema Consultation Dates Announced

Date Posted:26/04/2013

The public consultation for the proposed new cinema development at Yate Shopping Centre will take place on Thursday, 9thMay and Friday 10thMay.

The display will be in the former Stead & Simpson shop at Unit No1, South Walk and will be manned by members of the Project Development Team at the following times:

Thursday, 9thMay Noon – 8.00pm

Friday, 10thMay 10.00am – 6.00pm

The display will then remain in the unit until 5.00pm, Monday, 13thMay where visitors can view it at their leisure during Centre opening times.

Dominion Corporate Trustees (DCT), owners of the Shopping Centre, announced earlier this month its plans to build a six-screen cinema, restaurants and retail units on the land adjacent to the Link Road overflow car park.

DCT’s Group Property Controller, Mark Hull: “We are constantly being asked to build a cinema in Yate and the display will outline these plans. The addition of a cinema and more restaurants is a very significant investment for the town and is a key part of our strategy to upgrade the centre to compete with other centres in South Gloucestershire and north Bristol. I encourage everybody to come along and give us their thoughts on the proposals.

“This is an exciting time for Yate Shopping Centre as Costa Coffee and Sports Direct open new shops in East Walk this month and Marks & Spencer Simply Food is only six weeks from opening. Furthermore, there are other major high street retailers interested in coming to the town. Hence we have included another three retail units in the new scheme and already have operators interested in taking them.”

The £12 million cinema led development will create another 250 jobs with a further 150 construction jobs making DCT’s investment in the Shopping Centre over the last few years in excess of £40 million.
