There  are over 100 shops at Yate Shopping Centre, which was opened by Coronation Street's Elsie Tanner (Pat Phoenix) after construction of Yate Shopping Centre, that began in the early to mid 1960s, was finally finished.

The centre was revamped during the early 1990s, which included the erection of glass canopies throughout the centre. West Walk was extended, now containing McDonalds, The Entertainer, Argos and other shops.

During the 1980s and into the mid 1990s, Yate Shopping Centre hosted Yate's annual festival. Summer 2008 saw another spectacular.. Yate Talent Show – in which over thirty acts performed song and dance and lots more.

In December 2006 the owners of the shopping centre announced plans to enlarge and modernise it. One of the the main changes will be an enlargement of the existing Tesco supermarket, using part of the Centre's car park. To compensate for the loss of parking, the store will be on raised with parking beneath.

Located near the shopping centre is Morrisons, B & Q and Lidl and the shopping centre also has a Job Centre Plus, CAB (Citizens Advice Bureau), Yate Library, Leisure Centre, Over 50s ‘Pop-in’, and Health Centre.
